END OF THE ROAD FOR WELWYN HATFIELD LOCAL PLAN

Gascoyne Estates have long advocated a structured approach to development and the responsible release of Green Belt. This, we believe, should be governed by a strategic vision for the Borough, and formalised in a technically and legally compliant Local Plan. Without such a framework the people of Welwyn Hatfield are unlikely to benefit from the kind of ‘good growth’ which is desired and necessary.

Affordable homes and schools will not be built, key services will not be provided and speculative development will be rife, damaging the long-term attractiveness and prosperity of the Borough.

Gascoyne has written to all Councillors in advance of the Full Council Meeting on the 27th January. We believe that failing to adopt the Local Plan at the Inspector’s required Objectively Assessed Housing Need would be an irresponsible step. Our letter can be found here.
