New Employment Provision at the Heart of a Vision for the Future

Our Borough has a proud history at the forefront of innovation. As well as housing, it is important for the new Local Plan to provide adequate space for employment. Gascoyne Cecil are proposing a sustainable mixed use extension to Welham Green, focused on science and technology related enterprise.

In brief

Land at Marshmoor is inefficient for agriculture and unattractive, located between a busy road and a railway. It has great potential, however, to offer contemporary employment space focused on the life sciences and technology startups – flexible office space and sophisticated laboratories. This site provides an exciting opportunity at a time when science and tech based companies find it ever more difficult to find employment space in London or Cambridge. Nestled between the two at the heart of the golden triangle, these proposals have the potential to strengthen and diversify our local economy, helping to develop the borough’s skills base and competitiveness.

To support the needs of start up companies, as well as established nearby institutions such as the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Hertfordshire, we are proposing a limited number of innovative, campus-style homes. The site would capitalise upon its location, immediately adjacent to Welham Green railway station, offering easy access to both public transport and the A1(M).
